Today, we will learn a few hints and tips on photographing our favorite animals - Cats and Dogs.
First, photographing them in a natural setting adds drama and seems to give a scenario about what is happening in the photo. The animals seem to tell a story when you add a natural background to your kitten. The animals seem to have a purpose - are they hunting or are they being hunted?
Second, Make sure you use an electronic flash to supplement the existing light of the area. Adding a reflector will also help as it will light up the surrounding area as well. (Good luck - Cats are pretty hard to pose and have a mind of their own and will “Walk off the set” whenever they please)
Third, if photographing your precious cat indoors use a few “Props” such as rocks, potted Plants to give that ambiance and appearance of a “Natural Setting” - My cat like to sit on my Felt covered poker table. So, I added a few plant leaves and a black background to try and capture the beauty of her. (I yet to get her to sit there long enough to get a good photo - Like she knows what I want to do and becomes camera shy)
Fourth, try to think like a dog or a cat. Dogs love to chew on different things - so give them a chew toy to get them to settle down. Cats love to hang out in high places - so try to catch them in their favorite place to “Hide Out”.
Remember, your pets will have a few unique traits and behaviors that will make a few good photo opps.
But the most important thing to remember is to take lots and lots of photos and just have fun.
